Emily and Elan’s wedding in Columbia Heights was a perfect mix of backyard and city vibes, creating an intimate and community-centric celebration. As their wedding planner, I had the joy of bringing their unique Washington DC community garden wedding vision to life, ensuring every detail reflected their love for their neighborhood and sustainability.
Living in Columbia Heights, Emily and Elan frequently visit the Columbia Heights Green, making it the perfect spot for their wedding. The bride started her day getting ready at the stylish Line Hotel, and then the festivities officially kicked off with a welcome party at Doubles / Sonny’s Pizza, a beloved local coffee shop and pizza restaurant duo. This laid-back gathering was a perfect precursor to the wedding, allowing guests to mingle and enjoy the Columbia Heights atmosphere.
The ceremony took place under a beautiful chuppah built by the bride’s father, adding a deeply personal touch to their nuptials. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a casual cocktail hour featuring wine, beer, margaritas, and a spread of chips and queso. Dinner was served from the Roaming Coyote food truck. Choosing a food truck offered a fun experience that suited the couple’s desire for a laid-back garden dinner party vibe. After the meal, guests had the option to continue the celebration at the couple’s house for coffee and dessert or relax in the garden before ending the night with dancing at the Wonderland Ballroom.
Emily and Elan are truly the sweetest couple, and their wedding reflected their values perfectly. They aimed for a zero-waste event, utilizing community resources and ensuring almost everything used was recycled or compostable. Planning Emily and Elan’s Washington DC community garden wedding was an incredible experience. It was an honor to help them create a day that was so unique and special.
